Blog #65: 8 Ways To Boost Your Winter Skincare Routine Naturally


We all know that these cold winter months can be nice on the eyes, but not so nice on the skin.  Here are 8 ways to help your skin triumph over this winter season.

1) SBT (Seabuckthorn Berry) Salve: This salve is very helpful with eczema and dermatitis.  Some people get seasonal eczema in winter, other have it year round.  This formulation is all natural and vegan.  Simply apply the salve to impacted areas of your skin a nd you’re good to go!

  • The salve contains: Seabuckthorn, pomegranate, rosehip, rosewood, chamomile and helichrysum (helps with scar tissue).



2) Sea Salt Scrub with Essential Oils: Sea salt is extremely healing to the skin due to all of the minerals and exfoliating properties.  Essential oils are powerful unto themselves and pack a punch in the healing department.  But, when you mix sea salt AND essential oils together, you’ve got a next-level concoction.  I use the Aqua Oleum brand of essential oils and I’m very happy with it.  The quality is excellent and they smell great!  I use them in my DIY salt scrub or I mix them with grape seed carrier oil to apply to my skin directly.

Some essential oils with skin regeneration properties are: Geranium, Frankincense, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, Neroli and Myrrh


To make your own DIY salt scrub: Take 1 cup sea salt, 3/4 cup olive oil (or grapeseed oil), 5 drops of essential oil.  Mix together in a container with a lid.  **If you need to add a bit more oil to the sea salt, just eye-ball it.  You don’t want there to be too much oil.  You should be able to mix up the ingredients and the mixture should be easy to apply to the skin for exfoliation.


3) Omega 3 Fatty Acid Supplements: Omega 3s are important to overall health.  It’s also great for skin health and beauty.  Usually you’d want to look for omega 3 supplements sourced from either fish oil or flax seeds.  I take flax capsules because I have a severe allergy to all fish and shellfish.

  • Omega 3 benefits include: Aids in slowing the aging process and prevents wrinkles.  It helps to keep your skin looking smooth and moisturizes your skin from the inside out.

4) Raw Honey Apple Cider Vinegar Mask: 

Raw honey and ACV combined really pack a punch helping your skin to look beautiful and feel healthy naturally and affordably

  • Raw honey properties: Antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, humectant (draws   from air to your skin), helps with skin problems (acne, eczema, rosacea, hyperpigmentation), brightens complexion, helps even skin tone, lightens age spots and scars
  • ACV properties: Balances your skin’s pH, minimizes fine lines and wrinkles, evens skin tone, fights acne and pimples


To make your DIY face mask (for women and men): Mix 1/2 tsp raw honey with 1/2 tsp raw ACV.  Stir until smooth.  Apply to face and leave for 15mins. Rinse face and apply a moisturizer of your choice.  Use can give yourself a face mask 1 to 2 times per week to see a visible improvement in your skin.  

I have extremely sensitive skin (and eczema) and this skin solution has helped fix any pH issues on my face (dryness can also be caused by the pH being thrown off on your skin) that pops up.  It has helped even out my skin tone.  It keeps my face soft and smooth.


5) SBT (Seabuckthorn) Puree Supplement:  The Seabuckthorn berry is a superfood.  It contains omega 3, 6, 7 and 9!  This berry is pretty much a magical unicorn, lol.  Seabuckthorn promotes skin elasticity, hydration and regeneration.  This SBT can be purchased at health food stores.  Take 1 TBSP per day to see results, as it’s written on the bottle.

  • SBT contains: Vitmamin A, C, E, K, minerals, fatty acids, antioxidants and more


6) Home Humidifier:  Add moisture to your home during these cold, dry winter months with a humidifier!  Remember to clean out the water reservoir weekly to avoid a build-up of mold (health hazard).


7) Drink lots of water (live water): Drink water.  But not just any water…live water…with minerals….from nature.  Look for water that is alkaline with a pH of 8 to 9.  You not only want to hydrate your body, but get the good nutrients in there that’s missing from tap water.

  • Some alkaline water brands are (with pH levels between 8 – 9): Fiji, Evian and Eska


8) Raw ACV Bath: Apple cider vinegar is not the best smelling thing in the world, but it works wonders on your skin.  Add 1 cup of raw apple cider vinegar to a tub of warm water.  Soak for 15 to 20 minutes.  I highly recommend that you quickly rinse off your skin after you’re done soaking in the ACV bath (unless you want to smell like ACV…then do you).

I have taken many ACV baths to help soothe my eczema.  Dry skin is alkaline on the pH scale.  ACV acidifies your skin, so it helps balance it’s pH.  Plus the antibacterial properties help to clean the skin.  My skin always feels better after an ACV treatment and I highly recommend it to anyone (whether you have normal skin or skin issues).
