We all want to eat healthier. We all want to look better, feel better, have more energy and be the best versions of ourselves. But, sometimes getting started can be the hardest part and can keep us from even starting at all. Has this happened to you? Because it’s sure happened to me!
Here are 3 simple plant-based foods you can start incorporating in your daily eating today:
1. Plant-Based Protein Powder (with Greens):
I love smoothies. They are a very satisfying, easy and convenient way to get in a good percentage of your daily nutrients and protein while leaving you feeling light. Good plant-based protein powders can be tricky to find because some of them have heavy, grainy consistencies that don’t taste good.
The picture of plant-based protein powder (above) is what I currently use by the brand Progressive. It’s protein + greens, and it tastes smooth and delicious. I get the vanilla flavor because it’s easier to turn it into a different taste (example: berry, chocolate, etc). Also, the vanilla flavor brightens the flavor of the actual protein powder, and therefore the smoothie making it taste less dull.
So, if you are seeking out a plant protein powder, I highly suggest this one as a place to start your investigation. It’s suitable for active and busy lifestyles (I workout and dance), it’s more alkalizing to your body and it enables you to build strength normally (as with other protein powders). You can find this online, at health food stores and some regular grocery stores.
2. Plant-Based Yogurt:
This coconut yogurt by the brand Silk is my current favorite yogurt. I buy the unsweetened vanilla flavor. It’s rich, creamy and delicious! I’ve tried almond yogurt before as well and it was good, but I forgot which brand it was as it’s been a long time since I’ve had that one.
Benefits:
-It tastes rich, creamy and delicious just like normal Greek yogurt does
-It’s less acidic to your body and therefore is not inflammatory to your health
-Here’s more info about adopting plant-based eating habits
-It doesn’t cause the formation in phlegm in your throat like dairy yogurt does (are you always clearing your throat and don’t know why? There’s a high chance it could be the dairy in your diet).
Non-dairy yogurts can be found at your local health food store, however, more and more regular grocery stores are beginning to carry vegan food options.
3. Plantain:
Plantain is very popular throughout the Caribbean and other tropical locations in the world where it grows (African countries and the Philippines).
It’s actually a fruit in the banana family that is eaten more so in a vegetable type fashion (like a root veggie). It can be eaten with breakfast, lunch or dinner. It can be boiled, steamed, fried (just pan fry it) or pounded.
It’s a great way to mix things up and add a new plant-based food to your meal and give you more food options to choose from. Plantains can be found at your local ethnic food store.
I hope you found these 3 suggestions helpful. It just takes 1 small change at a time to end-up with entirely more healthy diet.
