Blog #59: Interview with Integrative Nutrition Health Coach Loralin Engel

The beautiful Loralin Engel.

Loralin is a California based Integrative Nutrition Health Coach who helps people live healthier lives and overcome a variety of health challenges, including eczema.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to have asked her a few questions about eczema, diet and wellness, despite her busy schedule helping clients across the USA, and in other parts of the world.

🌵 Simply Chrissy: What made you become a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach?

🍓 Loralin: I became a health coach because I wanted to help other people that suffered with eczema like me.

🌵 Simply Chrissy: When did you develop eczema and how long did it last?

🍓 Loralin: My first memory of eczema was around in Middle school, all the way till I was 46 years old.  So I probably had it for about 25 years give or take.

🌵 Simply Chrissy: How severe was your eczema and which areas of your body did it impact?

🍓 Loralin: I was lucky and only had it on my hands.  Before adulthood, it would come and go.  And when I got to be an adult it never went away and I also think when I became a hairdresser at the age of 19 the chemicals were probably the worst thing ever, but didn’t know it for the first 10 years of my career.  Because it was on my hand it was very debilitating.  Like I couldn’t open containers with out cracking and bleeding on things, or if I brushed my teeth how was I told to hold the toothbrush without cracking and bleeding.  I was depending on steroid creme for over 25 years so that did help some.

🌵 Simply Chrissy: As a female especially, we are sensitive about how we look.  Eczema can severely damage your appearance and cause a lot of emotional turmoil, plus additional self-esteem issues.  How did you cope with that?

🍓 Loralin: It was very embarrassing to shake someone’s hand because the skin on my hands were scaly and rough, dry and at times oozing.  You can imagine when I did makeup on brides or models I had to try to hide them from seeing my hands.  Even just running my hands on clothes it was scratchy and you and hear it, so embarrassing.

🌵 Simply Chrissy: From your professional experience, how does diet/lifestyle changes positively affect eczema sufferers seeking a permanent solution, as well as anyone else generally seeking to improve their health?

🍓 Loralin: I truly believe that diet, mental wellness, and knowing what triggers your flare-ups are so important. It took me a good 10 years of my health journey to be where I am.  The last 2 years I was very focused and had a whole different mindset.  I actually left doing hair after 28 years because that was probably my top 3 problems, along with diet and product use.  So I’m clear for the last 2 years and I can eat things that would normally trigger flares but I am still careful and don’t go overboard.  This is a lifestyle change for sure.

🌵 Simply Chrissy: Many people don’t know how severe and debilitating eczema can be physically, as well as the emotional pain that comes with it.  Can you share your thoughts on that?

🍓 Loralin: People who don’t know what eczema is think it’s contagious and they react different towards you.  At nights it can keep us awake because it itches, or we are in pain.  At times I felt insecure and withdrawn to the public.  I was always hiding my hands, and it’s hard because I talk with my hands, lol!

🌵 Simply Chrissy: How happy are you to be freed of eczema?  And how great do you feel helping people to overcome their eczema and other health issues?  How can people get in contact with you for help with improving their health?

🍓 Loralin: I am finally living my dream life to be able to do simple things.  Wash my face without gloves; being able to brush my teeth, I can rub my husbands back with out scratching him with dry scaly skin. I can shake peoples hands and feel confident.  I don’t have to wear cotton gloves any more.  I am honored to help people and not waste time like I did for over 25 years.  If I can do it, you can too.  I can help you and show you how especially because I understand what you’re going through.  You can email me at: or, go to my website: and sign up for my tips and upcoming programs to get started.

    1. Hello! 🙂 Thank you! The fact that more television commercials are talking about eczema definitely says something about it’s prevalence (just like with gluten intolerance and food allergies). Thanks so much for visiting, reading and leaving a comment!
